Needless to say, things have been pretty crazy for me over the past couple of months. Moving back to Winnipeg, jumping into four farmers’ markets, and caring for a parent who is ill has been more challenging than I anticipated; it seems like I am always running from one place to another.
In order to keep some sanity, I have begun taking a day off here and there. And by “day off” I mean no computers, no cell phone, no obligations.
My favourite way to spend a day off is at one of Manitoba’s beautiful provincial parks. I recently spent some time wandering the Spirt Sands trails in Spruce Woods provincial park. Spirit Sands is considered to be Manitoba’s desert because of its large wind-patterned sand dunes and cacti. Though part of the trail is desert-like, the path leading towards the Devils Punch Bowl is rich with a variety of plant life.

Not sure what kind of plant this is, but it is lovely!
this past weekend I spent some time in the Whiteshell Provincial Park visiting Falcon Lake and West Hawk Lake. I even went out to Kenora, Ontario for the day just to walk around and do some window-shopping – it was nice to be back on Ontario soil just for the day!

Cutest tablecloth ever!
Now that the weekend is over I’m back to work! As you may have noticed, I updated my “Events” tab with two new upcoming events!
This year I will be participating in ManyFest from September 6th – 8th, and the Harvest Moon Festival from September 13th – 18th. I will be updating the pages as I have more information on the events. Stay tuned!
I also updated my 2013 Farmers’ Market
page as I am now attending the Wellness Institute market on Tuesdays starting August 13th, 2013. I hope you can make it out to one of the markets, and that you are making the most of summer while it’s here!
Starting July 18th I will be joining the Downtown Winnipeg Biz Farmers’ Market on a weekly basis!
It is located right behind the Hydro building downtown at the corner of Edmonton Street and Graham Street. The market will run every Thursday until September 5th, from 11:30-5:30.
Check out the Downtown Winnipeg Biz website for a full list of the vendors that will be coming to the market.
You can also take a look at the 2013 Farmers’ Markets tab on my website for all of the details about this market, and to find out what other markets I attend.
Opening day at the Wolseley Farmers’ Market was great!! The weather was lovely and there was a great turn-out! Thanks to all of my friends and family who were able to make it out for opening day!
I was thrilled with the response to the shortbread – everyone said they loved it! I even sold out of the Lemon and Rose Water flavours. This afternoon I’m going to whip up a few batches for the Wolseley market tomorrow.
Here are some pictures from yesterday for those of you who couldn’t make it out!
(If you spot yourself in a photo and would like me to add your company name / website please send me and email with your information!)
Last night I finished most of my preparations for the opening day of the Wolseley Farmers’ Market! This morning I woke up with that combination of nervousness/excitement that fuels the love for what I do. I can’t wait to see my booth set-up and decorated, and meet a bunch of new people in the community I now call home.
The list of vendors for the market is diverse and offers a wide variety of products. Tthe two vendors I’m going to scout out today will be Jonathans Farm and Flatlanders Soap.
The Jonathans Farm booth will be located adjacent to mine, and is going to be loaded with fresh salad greens. The full description of what he’ll be offering today is listed on his website, so check it out and get your salad dressings ready to go!
Flandlanders Soap produces the most interesting felted soap creations! Check out the pictures of the felted soap on their Facebook page – how does anyone ever use the soap? It’s too lovely!!!
As for the Praire Sweet booth, you can expect to find the usual line up: Original, Espresso, Lemon, and Rose Water. Over the summer I will be adding new products, but for now I want to focus on what Prairie Sweet does best – shortbread!
I will be at the Wolseley market every Tuesday and Thursday, so if you can’t make it out today be sure to stop by at some point this summer to stock up on fresh, local, handmade goods!
