New Retail Location & Sample Day

Hello again!

Long time no blog :-)

Well, my exams are finally over, and I’ve had a little time to relax and de-stress after my crazy final paper / exam schedule. One of the things I experimented with during my break is Continue reading

Update

Creamy Caramel Tea

Doesn’t tea always taste better out of a pretty cup?

My post this week is just a brief update because I am still working like crazy on my final papers for university – one more week to go!!

But I wanted to let you in on some exciting news I got last week. Starting in May I will be baking my shortbread at the Dufferin Grove Community Centre! Dufferin Grove has been kind enough to offer me their kitchen two days a week so that I can get my incubator project off the ground and into the hands of other shortbread enthusiasts. Now that I have a commercial space I can start sending out applications to farmer’s markets in the GTA who are (hopefully) looking to add some sweet treats to their vendor options.

I also wanted to mention that I am still taking online orders for shortbread. If you live within the GTA delivery is free, or if live around Bloor and Ossington you can pick up my shortbread at Casa Portuguesa!

Now I’m going to enjoy this lovely cup of Creamy Caramel tea from Tealish, while I finish one of the three essays I have left to write.

Hope you’re out there enjoying Spring! :-)

TUM Wrap-Up

A BIG thank you for everyone who made it out to my first event! I’m glad so many people braved the cold and made it out - It was a chilly but fun evening!

There are a couple of people that I want to thank for helping me make my first event such a success:

  • Thank you to Daina Schreiber from The Saloon Salon for the pre-event trim! I will be creating a post all about this lovely salon, but I just wanted to give a quick shout-out because Daina has been so supportive of my new business!
  • Thank you to Andrea, from Andrea Squared who made all of my business cards, labels for packages, sign-up sheets, table-top tent cards, and the banner all by hand! Somehow Andrea was able to do all of that on short notice while working full-time, being a mother to two young boys, AND she writes her own blog. I have no idea how you do it Andrea! You truly are amazing!
  • Thank you to the TUM volunteer staff who helped me during the set up of my booth! You guys saved my butt – thanks again for everything you did!!
  • Thank you to the lovely Rosalyn Dennett for not only working the booth, but also for lending her wit to Prairie Sweet’s social media for the evening.
  • Thank you to Heather Coiner from Pannier Bread Company. Heather was absolutely instrumental in putting this event together. Not only did Heather provide all of the transportation before, during, and after the event, but she also helped during the baking / packaging process, AND worked the booth with me at the event. I really could not have done this without her help – Thank you Heather for everything!

For anyone who was not able to make it out to the event, or for those of you who would like another box, I will be selling my shortbread online while quantities last. Please check out this form to order shortbread online!

Thanks again to everyone for all of your support!

Sneak Peak: TUM Booth Decorations

With only three days until my first event (details here) I’m starting to gather decorations for my booth at the Toronto Underground Market (TUM).

As I wandered the isles of a giant kitchen supply store yesterday afternoon I came across some lovely brown baskets.
